VitaPulse and VitaLink (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) are health research and monitoring applications designed to collect physiological sensor data from Samsung smartwatches for participation in approved studies and for detecting critical health events such as cardiac arrest.
We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how data is collected, used, stored, and protected.
1. Information We Collect
a. Health & Sensor Data
When VitaLink is installed on a compatible Samsung smartwatch, the app collects health-related sensor data, including but not limited to:
- Heart rate and heart rate variability
- Motion and activity data
- Other Samsung Health–provided physiological signals
- Timestamped sensor readings collected in 12-second intervals
This data is transmitted securely to our server for study participation and real-time health monitoring.
b. Device & Technical Data
We may collect limited technical information such as:
- Device identifiers (non-personal, non-advertising)
- App version and system logs
- Network connectivity status
This information is used only for reliability, debugging, and security purposes.
c. Emergency Contact Information
If you enable emergency features, you may provide:
- Emergency contact phone numbers
These are used only in the event of a detected medical emergency.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect or store:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number (except emergency contacts you explicitly provide)
- Your physical address
- Advertising identifiers
- Payment or financial information
Each participant is identified only by a randomly assigned study ID.
3. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used strictly for the following purposes:
- Participation in health or research studies
- Monitoring physiological signals for signs of cardiac arrest
- Triggering on-device alerts during detected medical emergencies
- Contacting emergency contacts or emergency services (e.g., 911), if enabled
- Improving app reliability, safety, and performance
We do not use your data for advertising or marketing.
4. Data Storage & Security
- All data is transmitted using encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Data is stored in secure databases with restricted access.
- Each device is linked only to a study ID, not personal identity.
- Access to data is limited to authorized administrators and researchers associated with the study.
We follow industry-standard security practices to protect against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your data.
Your data may be shared only with:
- Authorized study administrators or researchers
- Secure cloud infrastructure providers necessary for app operation
- Emergency services or emergency contacts only during a detected emergency event
All sharing is limited to what is strictly necessary.
6. Emergency Detection & Alerts
If cardiac arrest or a critical health event is detected:
- The smartwatch may display an alert
- Emergency contacts may be notified automatically
- Emergency services (such as 911) may be contacted, depending on your configuration
These actions occur only to protect user safety.
7. Data Retention
- Health data is retained only for the duration required by the associated study or system operation.
- Data may be anonymized and retained for research or statistical purposes.
- Users may request deletion of their data, subject to study and legal requirements.
8. Your Rights & Choices
You may:
- Stop data collection by uninstalling the app
- Disable emergency features at any time
- Request access to or deletion of your data through the study administrator
Requests will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
9. Children’s Privacy
VitaPulse and VitaLink are not intended for use by children under the age of 13 unless part of an approved and supervised research study with appropriate consent.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
